RD Burman Birth Anniversary: ​​Five evergreen, heart touching songs of Pancham Da

On the eve of his Birth Anniversary we have brought you some of his evergreen songs that you must listen to.

The prime musical legend Rahul Dev Burman aka RD Burman or Pancham Da was born to no less a person than the great music director Sachin Dev Burman in then Calcutta (now Kolkata) in June 27, 1939.

Pancham Da was widely known for his introduction electronic rock genre and jazz music in Bollywood. He revolutionised the landscape of Indian music industry with his unique talent of blending world music with his repertoire of soulful and melodious compositions. He was something of a musical wizard who would smack music even out of ordinary.

Not many know that he starting composing music at a very tender age. He composed his first song, 'Aye meri topi palat ke aa', at the very young age of nine, which was used by his father in the film Fantoosh.

Not only was this hit song ‘Sar jo tera chakraaye’ also composed by him during his younger years.

It was icing on the cake Pancham Da and Asha Bhosle came together and gave us some of the most soulful and romantic melodies. He ranked first in The Cinemaholic's list of 'Greatest Indian Music Directors'.

He was not limited to Indian classical music but also he took inspiration from the western music world and created some magical songs such as Aao twist karein, Bhoot Bangla, Jahan teri yeh nazar hai, and Tumse Milke, and much more.

RD Burman was a legend in the music industry and his songs and compositions will always remain with his fans.

On his 82nd birth anniversary, here are 5 of our favourite tracks composed by the maestro:

3. O Mere Dil Ke Chain from the film Mere Jeevan Sathi featuring Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja and sung by Kishore Kumar.


4. Duniya Mein Logon Ko sung by Asha Bhosle and RD Burman, an another hit number from Pancham da’s repertoire. This classic song from the movie Apna Desh.


5. Bachke Rehna Re Baba, this song has the melodious voices of the trinity: RD Burman, Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar from the film Pukar.
