Golden Globes 2021: 'Mank' in lead, Netflix dominates

Three female directors - Regina King, Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell - make history in nominations.

As the nominations for the 78th Golden Globe Awards were officially announced on Wednesday morning, David Fincher's "Citizen Kane" origin story "Mank" lead with six nods.
Mank bagged nominations for top film drama, director (Fincher), drama actor (Gary Oldman), supporting actress (Amanda Seyfried), score and screenplay.
Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, also a Netflix release, came closest with five nominations, including nods for best film, drama; best director and best screenplay for Sorkin; supporting actor for Sacha Baron Cohen; and best song.
Meanwhile, Three women have been nominated for best director awards - the first time more than one has been shortlisted in a single year at the event.
Regina King, Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell are up for the prize, prior to this year, only five female directors had been nominated in more than seven decades.
The 2021 ceremony of Golden Globes is all set to be held on February 28, after being delayed from its usual January date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
