Protest across India over Amazon web series ‘Tandav’

The makers of ‘Tandav’ have said they will make changes in the content "to address concerns"

 
Recently Amazon prime web series Tandav had land in controversy for showing Hindu God in negative light. Several FIR was lodged against the market and complained filed to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for same.

State home minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra had said action will be taken against producer and artistes of Tandav web series and case will be registered against them. They accused the series of disrespecting Hindu gods, belittling members of individual castes and sullying the office of the Prime Minister.

Also a poster of ‘Nawab of Bhopal’, Saif Ali Khan, was painted black by the members of the Sanskriti Bachao Manch, which took out a protest rally. They blackened the face of the actor and raised slogans. Over the past few days, countless people across India have called for a ban on the show, even as others vow to boycott it.

After an FIR was filed against the Amazon's Original Content head for India, director, producer and writers of the web series Tandav for hurting religious sentiments, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now holding protests against web series in Mumbai some distance away from the office of Amazon.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam who lodged a complaint against the makers of 'Tandav' at Ghatkopar police station in Mumbai. "Strict action should be taken against the actor, director and producer of the web series," he said.The FIR lodged at Hazratganj police station names Amazon Prime's India head of original content Aparna Purohit, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra and another unnamed person.

Earlier, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had summoned Amazon Prime Video officials in India in connection with the controversy around the web series 'Tandav'.

Cases has been registered under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 295 (defiling place of worship with intent to insult religion), 505 (statement conducing public mischief), 469 (forgery on purpose of harming reputation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the IPC Act.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has demanded removal of the objectionable portions from the show. In a tweet, she said protests were being registered over some scenes of the web series, which hurts religious sentiments. So it would appropriate to remove the objectionable portions.
