The world’s largest steelmaking major ArcelorMittal's Executive Chairman Lakshmi Niwas Mittal had called Odisha's Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and visited Paradip Port in connection with a proposal of mega steel project in Kendrapara district.
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, this year on 4th of March had signed an MoU with the state government to set up a 12 MTPA greenfield steel facility at an investment of rupees 50,000 crore.
The Odisha CM's Office released photographs of L N Mittal meeting Patnaik at the CM's residence but there was no official statement on the discussion between the two either from the state government or the steel giant.
Although, one of an company's department official said that the Chairman of the steel major is aspiring the state government's cooperation for grounding its mega steel facility in Kendrapara, located some kilometres away from the Paradip Port in Odisha.
Major steel tycoon visited Paradip Port with other officials in the restricted area.
The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) took to Twitter and wrote, "Glad to host Shri Lakshmi N Mittal, Executive Chairman, @ArcelorMittal, who visited @paradipport to see the Port #infrastracture."
The PPT had also posted several photos of Mittal holding discussions with port officials.
