Nifty tops 16,430 for first time, Sensex claims 55,000, at new record high

Domestic share market benchmarks were trading at fresh records on Friday

Indian equity market benchmarks Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex and broader NSE  Nifty 50 were trading at record high levels on Friday. The BSE Sensex was trading 258 points or 0.47 percent higher at a lifetime intra-day peak of 55,102, while the broader Nifty 50 advanced 69 points or 0.43 percent to records all time highest 16,434 in initial deals.
 
M&M was the top Sensex gainer, rising over 1 per cent, followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), ICICI Bank, L&T, ITC, Tata consultancy services, Nestle India, HCL Tech and Axis Bank were among the other gainers. While, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid Corporation of India, Tata Steel, Dr Reddy’s labs and Sun Pharma were among the top Sensex laggards.
 
Nifty Bank  was up over half a per cent at 36,129 and Nifty FMCG surges up 0.5 per cent to 36,728. On the global side, Asian shares were trading in losses. Besides Tokyo, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul were trading in red territory in mid-session deals.
