Sensex drops over 100 points in early trade, Nifty slips below 15,800

Domestic Equity benchmarks were trading flat with a negative bias on Wednesday.

Indian Equity benchmarks Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex and broader Nifty 50 were trading in negative bias on the back of weak global cues on Wednesday.


BSE Sensex was down 104.99 points or 0.20 per cent lower at 52,664 in initial deals, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 was lower by 31.80 points or 0.20 per cent to 15,780.


Tech Mahindra was the top index gainer rising up to 1.41 per cent followed by L&T, Adani Ports, HCL tech, ONGC, Wipro, Coal India, BPCL, TCS, Power GridCorp, NTPC, Hero MotoCorp and ITC were the other prominent gainers.


Maruti was the top index loser, lower by around 1 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank, HDFC, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and Tata Steel were among other laggards.


Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma were trading in the red, Nifty Bank was down over half a per cent and Nifty Financial Services fell 0.5 per cent while Nifty IT was trading in green.


While in Asian market, bourses in Shanghai, Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo were trading lower in mid-session deals.
