Sensex slips after a strong start, Nifty below 18,300

Domestic equity markets benchmarks were down in after opening strong on Thursday.

The Indian share market benchmarks Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex and broader NSE Nifty 50 began Thursday day’s trade with strong gains but dived deep into the red minutes into the day’s trade.

 

BSE Sensex gained over 200 points to trade above 61,500 while Nifty 50 advanced more than 90 poins to trade above 18,300 in the opening deals.

 

Soon after the opening, the indices fell into deep red. BSE Sensex was down 369 points or 0.60 percent at 60,890 while Nifty 50 fell 66 points or 0.36 percent at 18,200.

 

Bank Nifty and broader markets were following the down trend of the benchmark indices. Similarly India VIX was trading in negative bias, but was still holding above 18 levels.

 

Kotak Mahindra, Power Grid, NTPC and HDFC are only four gainers on Sensex.

 

Tech Mahindra is the worst performer stock in Sensex, fell 3.78 percent, followed by Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tata Steel, AsianPaints, ITC and HCL Tech.

 

In the global equity market, the Asian indices, bourses in Shanghai and Seoul were trading with significant gains in mid-session deals, while Hong Kong and Tokyo were trading in losses.
