Sensex surges over 389 points in opening session, tops 56,500; Nifty crosses 16,800

Domestic share market benchmarks started the week in the green zone at new record high levels on Monday.

 

Indian share market benchmarks Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex and broader NSE Nifty 50 were trading at record high levels on Monday.

 

The BSE Sensex was up 495.69 points or 0.88 per cent at 56,620, and the NSE Nifty was up 143.30 points or 0.86 percent at 16,848.

 

Tata Steel is the top BSE Sensex gainer, rising by 3.65 percent, followed by Titan, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Asian Paints, NTPC, L&T, HDFC, RIL, Bajaj Finserv and Bharti Airtel.

 

Nestle India and Tech Mahindra were the only two Sensex laggard, down by 0.31 percent and 0.46 percent, respectively.

 

Nifty sectoral indices were trading in gains, with Bank Nifty surging half a percent. The Nifty Metal index breached 1.73 percent.

 

In the Asian market, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul bourses were trading in the positive territory in mid-session deals.
