Legendary athlete and Padma Shri Milkha Singh was admitted to the ICU of the Nehru Hospital Extension of PGIMER Chandigarh on Thursday.
The 91-year-old has admitted due to dipping levels of oxygen. He has been kept under observation and is stable now. Earlier this week he was discharged from a private hospital in Mohali even as he continues to be on oxygen support.
Meanwhile, his wife Nirmal Kaur is also fighting hard against the virus and is currently in ICU at the Mohali hospital.
Milkha is suspected to have contracted the infection from a house help.
He is a four-time Asian Games gold medalist and 1958 Commonwealth Games champion but his greatest performance was the fourth-place finish in the 400m final at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He was bestowed the Padma Shri in 1959.
