India records 46,617 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours

The national recovery rate is 96.97%.

India has recorded 46,617 fresh cases of coronavirus disease registering less than 50,000 infections for five consecutive days as reported from the Union health ministry data on Friday. Now India's cumulative tally of infections rise to 30,458,251.

In the last 24 hours, India also recorded 853 deaths. So far, 400,312 people have lost their lives to Covid-19 in the country.

Active cases of Covid-19 in the country continued to decline and now stands at 509,637 on Friday. On Friday, at least 59,384 people recovered, taking the national recovery rate to 96.97%.

According to health ministry the declining cases are a result of sustained and collaborative efforts by the Centre and the states and Union territories.

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson on Thursday stated that its single-shot COVID-19 vaccine generated strong, persistent activity against the Delta and other highly prevalent variants. The US based company said its vaccine was 85% effective and could also help prevent hospitalization and fatalities.
