India records 86,498 new COVID cases in past 24 hours, lowest in 66 days

The recovery rate now stands at 94.29%.

In a ray of hope, Covid cases in India saw a downfall as India recorded 86,498 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.


This is the country's lowest single-day rise in 66 days as stated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday June 8.


Now, India’s total caseload increase to 2,89,96,473, of which, 13,03,702 are active cases. The weekly positivity rate now stands at 5.94%, whereas, the daily positivity rate is at 4.62%.


The total death toll in the country rose to 3,51,309.


Till now, 1,82,282 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours and took the total number of COVID-19 recoveries across the country to 2.73 crores. The recovery rate now stands at 94.29%.


Meanwhile, PM Modi announced that from June 21, the Centre will provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all Indian citizens above 18 years of age.
