50% don’t wear mask, 20% have it on their chin, 2% on their neck: Govt. survey

India’s Covid cases has gone worse in second wave, which witnesses many deaths including young people with this time the government aims to increase the India's daily testing capacity for COVID-19 to 45 lakh by end of June from the current capacity of 16-20 lakh per day.

ICMR has so far approved a home-based rapid antigen testing (RAT) kit manufactured by Mylab Discovery Solutions Ltd, Pune.

ICMR director also cited a government study and said that 50 per cent people do not wear a mask which led to spread of infections.

According to the survey publish on 20 May, it found that as per a study, 50% people in India are not wearing mask in spite of surging in cases. Of those who wear, 64% cover mouth but not nose, some don't cover mouth and nose both. The study conducted in 25 Indian cities, out of 50% who wear the mask:- Among them 32% of the people do not cover the nose. 10% have it on the chin,  1% wear a mask on the neck and only 7% wear it correctly covering the nose, mouth, chin and with a clip-on nose.

Health ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal informed that eight states in the country have more than 100,000 active cases, 9 states have between 50,000-100,000 active cases and 19 states have less than 50,000 active cases.

Some states like Karnataka and West Bengal that are showing positivity of over 25 per cent which remain a concern.

Till Thursday, India's total of COVID-19 cases tally stands at 2,57,72,440 2,76,110 new cases reported in the last 24 hours while the daily deaths were recorded below 4,000 after four days, taking the toll to 2,87,122.

Eight states have more than 1 lakh active cases, nine states have 50,000 to 1 lakh active cases and 19 states have less than 50000 active. A decline has been observed in six states which were major contributors to active cases in the country -- Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Gujarat.

Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Jharkhand are 10 states where a decline in cases and decline in positivity in the last 3 weeks have been observed.

Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram are states showing a rise in cases and rise in positivity in last three weeks.

There are 89 districts where a decreasing trend in cases is being noted and there are 123 districts where a decreasing trend in case positivity is being observed for last 3 weeks.
