Milkha Singh's wife, Nirmal dies of COVID'19 complications

Nirmal was Director of Sports for Women in the Punjab Government and ex captain of the Indian national volleyball team.

Olympics sprinter and Indian legend Milkha Singh has lost his wife, Nirmal Saini to COVID-19. She was 85 years old. Nirmal was taken to hospital on May 26, the same day that Milkha Singh was also diagnosed with COVID-19.


Nirmal was Director of Sports for Women in the Punjab Government and ex captain of the Indian national volleyball team.


"We are deeply saddened to inform you that Mrs Nirmal Milkha Singh passed away after a valiant battle against COVID at 4 PM today," a spokesperson of the Milkha family said.


"A back bone of the Milkha Family, she was 85 years old. It is tragic that the Flying Sikh Milkha Singh ji could not attend the cremation which was conducted this evening itself as he is still in the ICU (of PGIMER in Chandigarh) himself," the source added.


Milkha Singh who himself is suffering from COVID-19 is "stable and continues to improve" as reported.
