New COVID variant 'Kappa' found in UP

The Kappa strain was detected during the genome sequencing by the King Geroge's Medical College

Uttar Pradesh has reported cases of the Kappa variant of Covid-19 as confirmed by the King Geroge's Medical College where the genome sequencing of 109 samples took place.


107 Delta variant cases have been found and some reports claimed that there have been two cases of Kappa variant in Uttar Pradesh and the first patient is a 66 year old resident of Sant Kabir Nagar who had surrendered to the disease.


Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said that cases of this Kappa variant were found earlier in the state.


He further added that there's nothing to worry about this variant of coronavirus and its treatment is possible.


The daily positivity rate in the Uttar Pradesh is 0.04 per cent. On July 8, 112 fresh cases of COVID and 10 deaths related to it were recorded in the state.
