Transgender people vaccinated in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a special vaccination camp for transgender people living and earning in the city.As of today, there’re around 500 transgender in Bhubaneswar get jabbed.
According to Rath that the first jab was given to even those who could not show an identity card. Ragni Das, is the first one who received the jab. Many transgender people have came forward to fight the battle, serving as frontline workers during second wave crisis.
Last month, the Centre had asked states to ensure that there was no discrimination against transgender community at vaccination centres.
The central government had also announced one-time financial assistance worth Rs 1,500 for the community who are adversely affected during the second wave of the pandemic. BMC has already started vaccination drive on wheels on a pilot basis for people aged above 45.
Meanwhile, Odisha's total tally as of Monday is 8,56,121.
