Tokyo reported 3,709 new covid cases amid Olympic 2020 while 18 associated with Olympics have contracted COVID

Tokyo had registered 3,709 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday amidst Olympic 2020 in the city while eighteen more people were associated with the Tokyo Olympics have been contracted COVID positive.
 
The Kyodo News reported that the city had surged over 3,000 new cases for the fifth consecutive day and doctors have criticised the government's response for the increasing cases.
 
At present, 12,017 new cases of COVID-19 infection that have been reported across Japan which is the second-highest single-day record.
 
Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, a day before had decided that patients only with severe cases of covid infection will be admitted to hospitals, making a policy U-turn.
 
Earlier,  the PMO of Japan on Twitter wrote, "We ask people to refrain from going out or travelling for non-essential, non-urgent reasons, and to be as careful and restrained as possible regarding returning to their hometowns during the summer and other travel."
 
The tweet also said that the government will continue to do everything in thier capacity to implement measures to prevent infections and administer vaccines campaign.
 
The country had declared a state of emergency in few cities including Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, Osaka and Okinawa Prefectures on July 31.
 
And had also applied priority and preventive measures to control the spread of COVID-19 infection in Hokkaido, Ishikawa, Kyoto, Hyogo and Fukuoka Prefectures till August 31.
