Indian Air Force MiG-21 fighter aircraft crashes in Punjab

The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries

Indian Air force MiG-21 aircraft crashed near Moga in Punjab on Friday.

The incident took place around 1 am when the Mig-21 was crashed at Langiana Khurd village of Baghapurana in Moga.

The IAF aircraft was on a routine training when the accident happened.

Indian Air Force official tweet says: "There was an aircraft accident last night involving a Bison aircraft of the IAF in the western sector. The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries. IAF condoles the tragic loss and stands firmly with the bereaved family."

IAF pilot Abhinav Choudhary was a resident of Ganganagar in Meerut. The Squadron Leader's family is originally from Baghpat but has been residing in Meerut.

This is the third crash of a MiG-21 aircraft this year. The other cashes took place in January in Rajasthan’s Suratgarh. The other taken place in March in Central India.

Meanwhile, a court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.
