CPSEs net profit down 20 percent to Rs 1.38 lakh crore in FY20

The performance was negatively empacted largely due to the Petroleum cognate group’s decline in profits

.Central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) aggregate net profit registered a five year low in the financial year of 2019-20. The latest Public Enterprises Survey tabled in Parliament showed that for 2019-20, CPSEs recorded an aggregate net profit of rupees 0.93 lakh crore and it had peaked at rupees 1.43 lakh crore in 2018-19. 
The PESB Survey for 2019-20 showed that in 2015-16, it stands rupees.14 lakh crore net profit, followed by rupees 1.25 lakh crore in 2016-17 and rupees 1.23 lakh crore in 2017-18.
The survey report performance for 2019-20 was negatively affected largely due to the Petroleum (refinery and marketing) linked group, which saw a decline in its net profit to rupees 3,230 crore in 2019-20 from rupees 32,149 crore in 2018-19. Out of the 256 India's operational CPSEs, 171 CPSE had recorded net profit and rest recorded net loss and one CPSE (food corporation of India) had reported no profit or loss.
Meanwhile, the CPSEs had contributed to Central exchequer grew from rupees 3.52 lakh crore in financial year 2017-18 to rupees 3.7 lakh crore in financial year 2019–20. The total value addition of CPSEs in financial year 2019-20 stood at rupees 5.3 lakh crore, down over 8 percent to rupees 5.8 lakh crore in 2018-19.
