Arambagh TMC candidate attacked with bricks as clashes erupt during Phase 3 polling

We shall take legal action against such central force personnel: Mamata

Clashes erupted between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Arambagh of West Bengal on Tuesday as the area voted in the third phase of assembly elections. TMC candidate Sujata Mondal was allegedly attacked by mask-clad men who threw bricks at her.

According to news agency ANI, clashes erupted between TMC and BJP supporters in Arambag on Tuesday morning as voting were underway. TMC has filed a complaint with the Election Commission over the attack on Sujata.

TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee said, "We shall take legal action against such central force personnel. We shall file an FIR. They talk about Beti Bachao and beat up my woman candidate Sujata Mondal, who is also an SC candidate."

"In Arandi-I area here, we have minority and SC voters who love Mamata Banerjee. Goons of BJP threatened and tortured the women voters last night," said TMC candidate Sujata Mondal. An officer attached with Sujata has suffered a head injury in the clashes while the TMC candidate claimed she was attacked by bricks.

She also said, "Situation is fine at many places but not okay where we're strong. At booth 45, people voted for TMC but it's going to BJP. In Arandi-II, our workers were beaten up. Central Forces are also not neutral. They're telling people to vote for BJP."

TMC further alleged that AITC Block Sabhapati Palash Roy's car was allegedly vandalised by BJP goons on Tuesday.
