Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's former confidante Suvendu Adhikari has claimed that he will defeat 'Didi' by a margin of more than 50,000 votes. Reacting to the Bharatiya Janata Party's decision to field him from Nandigram, the used-to-be TMC heavyweight said, "The competition is not only from Nandigram. The fight is against corruption. There is a strong anti-incumbency wave [in Bengal]."
"The [West Bengal] government failed on everything. No industry. No developmental work. People need change. West Bengal also wants change. Nandigram also wants change," Suvendu added.
"I am 200 per cent confident. This is not an individual fight, it is a collective fight under the banner of BJP," he further asserted.
Showing confidence that the saffron party will sweep the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections with a huge margin, Suvendu added that Nandigram is not a traditional bastion of the Trinamool Congress. "Before the 2007 Nandigram movement, it was a strong base [of the Left]," he said.
