Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed a rally in Purulia ahead of this year's West Bengal Assembly elections and came down hard at the state's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
Addressing a massive rally, Modi accused the CM's government of playing politics of appeasement, saying that the TMC will be punished for 10 years of misrule. The Bharatiya Janata Party star campaigner exuded confidence in the saffron party of returning to power and exhorted, 'on May 2 Didi jache, asol poriborton asche (On May 2 Didi will go, real change to come).'
He also accused its rival party of supporting Maoists. "TMC has created a new breed of Maoists in Bengal who loot public money," he said. The PM also attacked TMC supremo's 'khela hobe' slogan by saying, while Didi says 'Khela hobe', BJP promised development, education, health, employment.
"Didi 'bole khela hobe', BJP says development 'hobe', Didi 'bole khela hobe', BJP says education 'hobe', Didi 'bole khela hobe', BJP says upliftment of women will be ensured, Didi 'bole khela hobe', BJP says job opportunities will be created for youth," Modi said.
Apart of all the stinging attacks, the 75-year-old wished Mamata for speedy recovery from the Injury occurred in Nandigram. "I pray to God that injured Mamata 'Didi' recover quickly," he asserted.
Meanwhile, the Bengal Assembly elections will be conducted in eight phases, with the first one set to begin on March 27. The Election Commission will be announcing the West Bengal Assembly Election results on May 2.
