Four shot dead as violent clashes erupt between TMC, BJP workers in Bengal

The police recovered several crude bombs from the area.

West Bengal is having its fourth phrase of election today and it witnessing violence and clashes between parties.In a clash between BJP and TMC four persons have been shot dead in Cooch Behar.

It is alleged that CISF had opened fire after coming under attack in Sitalkuchi in Bengal's Cooch Behar district. At polling booth number 285 in same place as bombs were hurled. The police recovered several crude bombs from the area. The police had to resort to lathicharge to defuse tensions.

Earlier TMC wrote to the Election Commission stating that across several booths in Sitalkuchi, Natalbari, Tufanganj and Dinhata, BJP workers were creating a ruckus and preventing the TMC agents from entering the booths.

This place is considered a crucial battle ground for both TMC and BJP. This areas also mostly dominated by tribal and minority communities.

Once ruled by the present ruling party the condition get changed in general election in 2019 when the wind was in favour of the BJP and won seven of the eight Lok Sabha seats and stayed ahead in 35 assembly segments.
