In another setback to the Trinamool Congress, its party MLAs Sonali Guha and Rabindranath Bhattacharya joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of BJP state unit chief Dilip Ghosh.
Once a close aide of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and a four-time MLA, Sonali Guha joined the party two days after being denied a ticket for the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal. "I had given all my efforts for the TMC. ''Didi'' and others know that very well. I will now devote myself equally to the new party," she said.
Bhattacharya was MLA from Singur but this time he was also not given the ticket to contest the poll as he is 85. He is credited to be extremely important during the Singur land acquisition movement in 2007.
Meanwhile, TMC MLAs Sital Sardar, Dipendu Biswas and Jatu Lahiri also joined the saffron party in Kolkata.
