The contours of alliances have not been finalised yet, but almost all political parties contesting in Puducherry have gone ahead with announcing their candidates, as there’s just three more days left for nominations to be filed.
The Congress Party released a list of 14 candidates for the Puducherry assembly polls, but in an uncertain development, it didn't mention the name of the UT's former Chief Minister and party's heavyweight V Narayanaswamy.
However, that doesn't imply that Narayanaswamy has entirely opted out from the elections; rather he'll look after the campaign and poll management. This announcement was made by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Puducherry Dinesh Gundu Rao.
According to sources, Narayanaswamy is indeed a crucial member in the Congress party and his eyes have always been on becoming the chief minister, but he has also made his words and message clear that he is not going to contest this year, instead he would look after the management associated to the polls and campaigns.
The Puducherry Congress heavyweight used to contest from Nellithope, which he had represented after winning a by-election in 2016. However, this time this seat has been given to the DMK with V. Karthikeyan replacing Narayanasamy as the candidate.
