12-year-old steals mother's jewellery to fund gaming addictions, flees home

He spent that wholesome amount on ‘Free Fire’, which is an online mobile game.

A 12-year-old from Delhi’s Preet Vihar was so hooked to games that he took money from his father’s pocket to buy weapons in the game. The act went out of control when the minor stole his mother’s jewellery and sold them to fulfil his demands.

However, in fear of getting caught for doing such a nuisance he ran away from his home.

He spent that wholesome amount on ‘Free Fire’, which is an online mobile game. There are a lot of in-app purchases that have to be made to keep up with the inventory. He sold his mother's chain for Rs 20,000 and ran away catching Kalindi Express from Delhi and landed in Aligarh.

When he was seen roaming on the platform a passenger informed the RPF who got the boy and brought it to their head. On being enquired he said he had run away from his house. His parents were informed who came down rushing to Aligarh.

His father, who runs a family business in Preet Vihar, said he had given his son a phone with good intentions that he would do online classes, however he downloaded the battle game, got addicted to it and for updating it he started stealing from the house.

This is not the only case, there have been many such cases where kids steal from their parents and spend in online games.
