26 killed in lightning in West Bengal

PM Modi also approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured

At least 26 persons were killed in lightning strikes in various district of West Bengal according to state disaster management stated on Monday.


As many as eleven people died in Hooghly district, nine in Murshidabad and two people died each in Bankura, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore districts respectively.


Following this tragic incident PM Modi tweeted: “My thoughts are with all those who lost their near and dear ones due to lightning in parts of West Bengal. May the injured recover at the earliest.”


PM Modi also approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
