40 fall in well while watching rescue of minor in MP

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered an inquiry into the accident

An 8 year old girl fell into the 40 feet deep well while playing in Madhya Pradesh’s district, Vidisha. The tragic incident was reported from the Lalpathar area of the district around 8 in the evening.


Police said on Friday that nearly 40 people, who had gathered around the well to watch others trying to pull out the child, fell into the well after its boundary wall collapsed in due to the pressure.


The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that around 23 people have been rescued and atleast four people died in the tragic incident. Several others were injured and 13 people have been admitted to hospital.


Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who asked Vishvas Kailash Sarang, the guardian minister of Vidisha to oversee the rescue
and relief operation, said he has ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident.


As per a leading daily, the girl fell into a well late on Thursday evening while playing. After that, a huge crowd gathered around the well to watch the child being rescued. Due to the weight of the crowd, the wall collapsed and other people had also fallen into the well.


Reportedly, the rescue operation which was later led by personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and the state-level disaster response force, was suspended for some time after a tractor being used by thema long with four policemen for the same also fell into the well.
