5.4 magnitude earthquake hits Sikkim-Nepal border; tremors felt in north Bengal, Assam, Bihar

The epicenter of the earthquake was 25 km east-southeast of Gangtok.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale witnessed near the Sikkim-Nepal border on Monday at 8:49 pm, according to National Center for Seismology (NCS).


Tremors were felt in north Bengal, Assam, and some other parts of Bihar, as per reports.


The epicentre of the earthquake was 25 km east-southeast of Gangtok. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km from the surface.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking stock of the damage due to the earthquake. He is reportedly speaking to the chief ministers of all four affected states.


Modi has already spoken to the CMs of Bihar, Assam, and Sikkim.
