Assam: EVMs allegedly found in BJP MLA's jeep, Cong takes jibe

In the video, an EVM can be seen in the backside of the vehicle.

Just after the second polling phase finished in Assam, a video surfaced alleging that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were being transported to Patharkandi Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Krishnendu Paul.

The video was aggressively tweeted by senior Assam-based journalist Atanu Bhuyan, who later reported that the “situation is tensed in Patharkhandi because of the incident.”

In the video, an EVM can be seen in the backside of the vehicle and the locals alleged that the vehicle belongs to Krishnendu, who is also contesting in this election.

According to Election Commission sources, the Bolero car of which a video was posted on social media, belongs to the BJP MLA.

Taking a jibe in the matter, the Congress party raised serious questions over the use of EVMs and urged political parties to relook their use in polls. “The EC needs to start acting decisively on these complaints and a serious re-evaluation of the use of EVMs need to be carried out by all national parties,” tweeted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora also warned that if such ‘loot’ continues then the party would boycott the election.
