Bengalis abroad get online 'priest' training to worship Maa Durga

There is a scarcity of priests which got aggravated last year

Due to COVID, Bengalis living in foreign countries will have to take a crash course in how to perform the elaborate rituals for Durga Puja.

Bengalis living in countries like the US, the UK and Thailand have trained themselves in the traditional 16-step method to worship the goddess this year.

Lack of priests at puja pandals in these countries started last year when  restrictions, guidelines and other Covid-19 regulations regarding gatherings were imposed. Only five to six people were allowed in the puja ceremony.

Presently, there are more than 60 Durga Pujas in the UK. There is a scarcity of priests which aggravated last year.

People started learning mantras and Puja rituals through zoom and it took them 3-4 months to understand and perform the rituals. This year even idols were hard to get and so organizers decorated pics of Maa Durga.
