Two "low intensity" blasts were reported at Jammu airport's technical area in quick succession early on Sunday as stated by Indian Air Force.
The first explosion was place at 1.40am and the other, weaker in intensity, a little latter. The explosions, which took place at around 1.42 am, were so powerful that it was heard till a distance of around 1 km from the site. One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.
IAF tweeted that “There was no damage to any equipment. Investigation is in progress along with civil agencies.”
Security agencies suspect that drones were used to drop bombs at the station. Drones were used to drop weapons in the past as it cannot be detected by radar. Jammu division is on high alert after a person was injured following explosions inside Jammu airport’s technical area. He was hit by a splinter.
Soon after the explosion, police dispatched a bomb disposal squad and a team of forensic experts to the technical area. Police have also arrested two people from near the area.
A suspected militant was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police from near a shopping mall in the jurisdiction of Trikuta Nagar Police station. An IED was seized from him. Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said that the IED weighed nearly 5 kilograms.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh, who is on three-day visit to Ladakh, spoke to Vice Air Chief, Air Marshal H.S. Arora regarding explosions at the station. Rajnath Singh informed that Air Marshal Vikram Singh would soon reach Jammu to take stance on two blasts.
A high level meeting was underway at the Air Force station with senior police and Indian Air Force officials in attendance.
