Bokel in Dibrugarh celebrates 183 years of Durga Puja

The puja organizers hire talented artists and artisans from Kolkata to make idols in Bokel

The Bokel Tea Estate Durga Puja will mark 183 years of celebrations this year. It is one of the oldest Durga Puja Pandals in Assam. It is the most popular puja in Assam's Dibrugarh district, which has a rich divine legacy still revolving across generations, and makes it one of the most desired destinations for pandal hoppers.  This year's celebration is different from last year due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Dinesh Das, Secretary of Bokel Durga Puja Committee said that Bokel will see celebrations with all rituals in place this year. He added that this Durga Puja has had a long legacy since the Ahom days. He said, "Devotees and tourists from all over Assam flock to Bokel during this time to take blessings of Maa Durga." The puja organizers hire talented artists and artisans from Kolkata to make idols in Bokel. It is also known that the same family of artisans have been involved in the craft for generations.

This year organizers are expecting a huge crowd to visit their Puja pandal. The committee will follow all COVID-19 standard operating procedures. They also expressed joy and happiness over the Assam Government's decision to allow puja festivals this year.
