Calcutta HC permits fully vaccinated people to attend Pandals

The West Bengal government cancelled the annual Durga Puja carnival this year

In West Bengal, the Calcutta High court on Thursday has given permission to fully vaccinated citizens against COVID-19 to attend Durga Puja celebrations for this year. 

The devotees who have received both the Covid-19 jabs, will only be allowed to offer 'Pushpanjali' and participate in 'Sindoor Khela' this year. Around 45-60 people have been allowed for the big pandals while 10-15 people have been permitted for the smaller pandals. 

Previously, the HC said that pandals will be 'no-entry zones' for people and prohibited visitors in order to limit the transmission of covid. The devotees were banned from visiting the Puja pandals last year as well.

The West Bengal state government cancelled the annual Durga Puja carnival this year. State government has asked people to follow the Covid-19 guidelines and are taking every step to curb the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19.
