Centre to acquire Covishield, Covaxin at revised rates

It will receive 37.5 crore Covishield and 28.5 crore of Covaxin by December.


With a prediction of a third wave by the experts, the Government has been promoting vaccination drives to speed-up.


Around 66 more doses of both the vaccines have been ordered by the Centre. It is expected that it will be supplied between August and December. The revised rates are Rs. 205 for Covishield and Rs. 215 for Covaxin.


In an official statement it is estimated that the center will receive 37.5 crore Covishield from Serum Institute of India and 28.5 crore of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech by December. With the inclusion of the taxes the rates would turn out to be Rs. 215.25 for Covishield and Rs. 225.15 for Covaxin respectively.


These rates would be applied after June 21. Before this, the Union health ministry were buying the vaccines at Rs. 150 per dose for both of the vaccines. With the new policy coming into action the government will buy 75% of the vaccine produced by the manufacturers.
