Congress top brass to sit and discuss ahead of Rahul Gandhi's ED appearance

Congress leaders are set to hold a virtual meet tomorrow ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED on June 13

New Delhi: Tomorrow on June 9 (Thursday) at 4 pm, Congress general secretaries, in-charges, and all Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs are set to hold a virtual meeting ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the Enforcement Directorate on June 13.

In the National Herald Case, Rahul Gandhi was asked to appear before the ED  on June 2 and then the Congress asked for more time. The Congress leader was sent a fresh notice and asked to appear before the ED on June 13.

The National Herald matter came to light when former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy filed a case in the Court accusing Ms. Sonia Gandhi and his son Rahul Gandhi of land grabbing and misappropriating funds worth thousands of crores of Rupees.

He alleged that the Gandhis had acquired a public limited company named AJL through a privately held firm named 'Young India Limited', of which Rahul Gandhi was the director.

Subramanian Swamy in his complaint alleged, "YIL 'took over' the assets of AJL, including the National Herald, in a 'malicious' manner to gain profit and acquire assets worth over Rs 2,000 crore."

He also alleged, "YIL had paid just Rs 50 lakh to obtain the rights to recover Rs 90.25 crore that AJL owed the Congress party. The loan was taken by AJL to start the newspaper. Swamy also alleged that the loan itself was illegal, as it had been disbursed from party funds."

The ED probe in the case began in 2014. It started the investigations to verify the allegations of money laundering.
