The renegade Mehul Choksi who was arrested for illegal entry in Dominica, got bail on medical grounds to travel to Antigua and Barbuda.
The interim bail granted by the Dominica court is strictly for medical treatment in Antigua and has been approved until he is certified fit to travel and after that he has to return to Dominica.
The Dominican law court had granted a consent order by Choksi's legal practitioners’ team and the state's lawyer, permitting him to go to Antigua.
The court also asked him to deposit 10,000 Eastern Caribbean Dollars as bail money to seek medical attention from a specialised neurologist.
The high court has put off the ongoing trial for his alleged illegal entry into Dominica on May 23 till his return. The 62-year-old Mehul Choksi is wanted in India in connection with a with the fraud case in Punjab National Bank of rupees 13,500 crore.
The fugitive Choksi had gone missing on May 23 from Antigua and Barbuda and was later captured in Dominica and is facing charges of entering the country illegally. He has filed a petition in the high court of Dominica, seeking to withdraw the invalid proceedings against him claiming that his arrest was oppressed by the Indian government representatives.
The petition was filed against the Immigration Minister of the Caribbean nation, the police chief and the investigating officer of the case. Choksi's legal practitioner's team has claimed that their client was kidnapped and forcibly taken to Dominica.
