Durga Puja: Devotees returning from idol immersion attacked in West Bengal

The issue stated after the devotees refused to pay money for liquor to the goons

In the Annapurna area of Durgapur, West Bengal, devotees who were returning from the idol immersion ritual of Goddess Durga were attacked by a hostile group of people. The group attacked with a country bomb on a crowd returning home after immersing Maa Durga's idol on Saturday night.

 

The same incident took an ugly turn between two mohallas and both sides have accused each other of stone-pelting, sabotage and assault.

 

Some devotees were injured and their vehicles were damaged. The Local people of the area alleged that some people living in the nearby locality attacked them and also damaged the temple in the area. The issue started after the devotees refused to pay money for liquor to the goons.

 

Huge police forces are now deployed in the area and law and order is now maintained. The injured were taken to the local hospital by the police. ACP Dhruvjyoti Mukherjee informed that the attackers are yet to be identified and all of them are absconding. Special police teams have been formed to mark and identify them. Officials said that significant actions will be taken soon by making arrests.
