The Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Sunday that an economy-class ticket on Delhi-UK flight has been available for between rupees 1.03 lakh and rupees 1.47 lakh during August.
The Civil Aviation Ministry took to Twitter and said, "There are media reports claiming India-UK one-way economy class fares have touched Rs 4 lakh."
The ministry said that these reports have no proven basis and added, "The veracity of Shri Sanjeev Gupta`s claim has been thoroughly checked by DGCA."
The ministry also added, "The fares offered on the Delhi-London sector (Economy class) range from Rs 1.03-1.21 lakhs for Indian carriers and Rs 1.28-1.47 lakhs for UK carriers for travel during August 2021,".
On Saturday, Secretary, Inter-State Council Secretariat at the Union Home Ministry, Sanjeev Gupta had complained on Twitter that an economy-class ticket on British Airways's Delhi-London flight for August 26 was priced rupees 3.95 lakh.
The Secretary added that economy-class tickets on Delhi-London flights of Vistara and Air India airlines for August 26 was also priced between rupees 1.2 lakh and rupees 2.3 lakh amidst college admission time in the UK.
Gupta also has "alerted" Union Civil Aviation Secretary, P S Kharola about this issue . After Gupta's Twitter post, the Directorate General of Civl Aviation (DGCA) has asked the airlines which operate India-UK flights at present has to submit details about their fares.
International passenger flights which have been scheduled are suspended in India since last start of Covid-19 pandemic.
Although, international passenger special flights have been operating since July 2020 in limited number and under the air bubble arrangements formed with 28 countries, which includes the UK.
