Facebook accused of delaying actions against fake accounts promoting BJP MP

The allegations were rejected by the company saying that the claims are baseless

Sophie Zhang, a former data scientist of Facebook claimed that in 2019, the authorities delayed taking action against fake accounts linked to a Bharatiya Janata Party MP, while they took immediate actions against three other different accounts which belonged to other parties.

All the fake accounts were spreading inaccurate political hate speech and messages benefiting specific political parties which are in direct violation of Facebook guidelines.

The former employee who worked with the social media site from January 2018 to September 2020, told that when the accounts were found, only actions were taken against three while the forth one was active for a longer period and only temporary actions were taken. Even if the account was taken out, they were restored within months.

Similar allegations have been faced by the company before for not taking actions against the accounts working for the ruling government. Many critics say that Facebook does not want to be on bad terms with the government and so is working parallel to protect their interests.
