FSSAI launches mobile app to connect with consumers and FBOs

This app named as Food Safety Connect, will help food businesses, particularly the hawkers, vendors and the start-ups, to apply for FSSAI registration

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) launched a mobile application to improve their connection with the consumers and food business operators (FBOs).

This app named as Food Safety Connect, will help food businesses, particularly the hawkers, vendors and the start-ups, to apply for FSSAI registration through a faster and in a more convenient mode.

The Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006 states that every food business in the country is required to obtain FSSAI licence or registration prior to commencing the business.

The country has a large number of unorganised food businesses which are not much conversant with the tech-based platforms.

The app will also provide any information regarding the eligibility criteria; FAQs on the procedures related to licensing and registration; regulations and any other compliances for the food businesses.

The FBOs can now also access resource material to the list of notified laboratories for food testing, product standards, list of Food Safety Mitras, inspection checklists, training through FoSTaC, guidance documents etc.

This app aims to decrease the communication gap with the consumers and provide a resource hub for them to stay aware and updated about FSSAI key activities.

People can access knowledge hubs such as information videos, myth busters, books and other guidance documents which are relevant for the citizens to know about safe and healthy eating practices.

It can also be used as a medium for consumers to easily verify FSSAI license or registration on any food packet and users can lodge their complaints related to any food safety matters through the app.
