Himalayan Horror: 19 bodies recoverd, 150 still missing

Rescue operation is still underway as on Monday personnel struggled to reach trapped victims in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, a day after a glacier broke and caused sudden, massive flooding in the state.

Uttarakhand Director General of Police Ashok Kumar informed that as of now 19 bodies had been recovered so far, but over 150 people are still missing.
 
The Rishiganga Power Project was completely swept away with the flood, while the Tapovan power plant was also damaged .A team of scientists left for Joshimath to investigate the exact cause of the glacier break, which experts say appears to be a result of climate change and increasing intervention of human activities in the ecologically sensitive area.
 
To take stock of the situation, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday, visited the spot and announced Rs 4 lakh financial assistance each for the families of those killed in the mishap.
