The coast guard officials along with Gujarat Police's Anti-terrorism squad launched an operation to seize a boat on suspected narcotics trafficking off the India-Pakistan international maritime boundary line upon receiving an input on April 13.
The Indian Coast Guard then detained a suspected Pakistani boat containing 30 kilogrammes of heroin and arrested eight Pakistani nationals from the vessel off the coast of Gujarat on midnight of April 14. Their boat named JamJam was spotted on the International maritime board at Jakhau in Kutch.
The fast interceptor boat of the Coast Guard with ATS officials was deployed to seize the suspected Pakistani boat. About 30 packets of heroin weighing approximately 1 kg each were recovered from the boat. The value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around 300 crore rupees in the international market.
The preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment of heroin being smuggled was destined to land on Gujarat shore.
The boat along with eight Pakistani crew is being escorted to Jakhau, Gujarat, for further search and joint investigation. Forensic experts have been called in to examine the contraband and ascertain its type.
