The government of India has planted an X-Band Doppler weather radar, which will help in providing forecasts for all types of severe weather events which will be prevailing over the region. It will forecast all the conditions of weather which will be useful for pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The radar was inaugurated at Jammu on Sunday.
This new improved weather service will be useful to the people of J&k and will help in providing weather forecasts for different sectors including the forecast for the pilgrims coming to Katra for the shrine.
DrJitendra Singh, the Union Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Minister, also launched the indigenous GPS-based Pilot Sonde at the India Meteorological Department office in Jammu.
The IMD took a step further and started this new station which is an updated system that is developed and used in the other developed countries. This system will help to collect important data in all weather conditions with minimum to no human intervention and has facilities of auto detection of balloon launch and balloon burst.
This will also enhance the safety and security of the valley and the army will have detailed reports of the weather conditions of the area.
