Former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal was summoned by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday to appear before it on June 16 in the Kotkapura police firing case.
The SIT is to ascertain as to who gave the orders to open fire, whether the cops fired in self-defence and if standard operating procedure was followed.
Parkash was Punjab's chief minister when police opened fire on protesters on October 14, 2015, killing two and injuring others.
The three-member SIT of Punjab Police is headed by additional director general of police (vigilance bureau) LK Yadav. Ludhiana police commissioner Rakesh Agrawal and Faridkot range DIG Surjit Singh are the other two members.
