In a tragic incident a farmer from Madhya Pradesh has committed suicide by drinking pesticide. He was deeply in trouble as the fire ruins the standing crop of wheat. The incident has taken place in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district.
The farmer has been identified as Bedilal Ahirwar (55), a resident of Damoh’s Chilaud village. After he consumed pesticides, he was rushed to hospital but he breathed last on the way to hospital.
According to source by close kin the farmer Ahirwar was in deep trouble after having an acre of his standing wheat crop burnt in a fire caused by short circuit in a high-tension line passing over the field.
After the incident the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from Pathariya, Rambai Singh had visited the village. She said, “I have spoken to the Union Agriculture Minister and the district collector about the issue. Aggrieved farmers will be compensated soon.”
This is a rising concern as in the last four days; there have been several reports of fires in wheat crops in more than a dozen villages across the district. It is also a matter of concern that the state of agriculturalist and farmers especially the poor and marginal farmers’ condition is still worse in India, that had led to rising suicide among the farmers even in recent times.
