Massive fire breaks out at chemical factory in Pune

Over 11 people died in the incident.

At least fifteen persons were killed after a massive fire broke out in an industrial area at Mulshi in Pune on Monday. The fire broke out at a chemical factory in the MIDC at Pirangut this evening.


A thick cloud of smoke could be seen billowing out of the plant.


Mulshi Tahsildar Abhay Chavan confirmed 11 people died in the incident. “Eleven bodies have been recovered,” he said.


Some people are still feared trapped inside the plant, eyewitnesses said. The bodies are being taken to the state-run Sassoon General Hospital in Pune city.


Meanwhile, Pune Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh and Pune-Rural Superintendent of Police Dr Abhinav Deshmukh have rushed to the spot.
