Meghalaya government releases SOP for Durga Puja

The people who are aged above 65, children and pregnant women have been advised to stay at home during the festival

The State government of Meghalaya said that there will be no sitting down and partaking of prasad in the puja pandals across the state due to the pandemic.

An official standard operating procedure (SOP) is issued by the government on Sunday.

They said that only packed dry prasad can be distributed among devotees and visitors. The SOP also mentioned no lunch or serving of cooked food will be allowed and added that floral offerings will also be regulated by the organisers.

Chief secretary MS Rao issued an order that all the idols of goddess Durga and others should be in one frame and their maximum height should not exceed five feet and devotees will not be allowed to touch the idols. The puja Pandals would be kept simple with minimum embellishments and lighting.

The people who are aged above 65, children and pregnant women have been advised to stay at home during the festival. Government has also directed the central puja committee for widespread awareness on restricting inter-locality movement during the celebrations and only people who are fully vaccinated may attend the puja celebrations.

The puja activities will be conclude by 10pm.
During immersion only 20 people will be allowed this time.
