Kolkata Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra said on the 2021 Puja Guide Map, that over 5,000 police personnel would be deployed to handle the crowd during the key week of festivities.
The capital of West Bengal is almost in a carnival mood, with several big as well as with unique themes Puja pandals has been already inaugurated.
After launching the guide map and a traffic bulletin at an event at the Lalbazar police headquarters, the police commissioner told medua that the traffic situation in the city had improved over the past year.
Mitra noted that there had been less road accidents and added that his department would follow the Calcutta High Court’s orders on strictly maintain the Covid-19 guidelines during the Durga Puja celebrations.
Citizens who have received both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine will be allowed to enter Puja pandals this year while the committees can organise traditional rituals such as “Sindur Khela” and “Anjali”.
The police said that as per the court’s latest guidelines, 45 to 60 citizens would be allowed to enter big pandals at a time and 10-15 citizens would be allowed to enter inside smaller pandals.
The court had withdrawn the night curfew during the Durga puja festivities, the cops have to maintain night-long surveillance on the streets like before.
The police informed that children will not be allowed to enter the puja pandals, and requested to people to followed all Covid-19 guildelines such as wearing masks and physical distancing.
