Navratri 2021: All the details of Maha Gauri puja

The holy form avatar of Goddess Durga, Maha Gauri represents the merciful avatar of Maa Durga

Devotees of Goddess Durga celebrate Navratri four times a year during the seasonal transition which are Magha (winter), Vasanta (Spring), Ashadha (Monsoon) and Sharad (Autumn). 

However, the one in autumn in the month of Autumn is the most popular and so the name Shardiya Navratri is given.  Navratri festivities began on 7 October this year, and today is the Maha Ashtami Tithi or the eighth-day of Ashwin, Shukla Paksha or the waxing phase of the Moon. Devotees shall worship the Maha Gauri avatar of Goddess Durga.

The holy form avatar of Goddess Durga, Maha Gauri represents the merciful avatar of Maa Durga. She is depicted holding a trident  and a drum in the upper right and left hands, respectively while she depicts the Abhaya and Varamudra in the lower hands. She is Mounted on a bull, this form of the Mother Goddess is called Maha Gauri as she has fair complexion. The Maha Gauri Puja Shubh Muhurat is Vijay Muhurat from 2:03 PM to 2:49 PM.


Puja Vidhi: 

Begin the puja by invoking Lord Ganesha and seek his blessings for a hurdle-free Navratri vrat and then you have to invoke Maa Mahagauri by chanting the following Mantras.

Maha Gauri Mantras:

Om Devi Mahagauryai Namah॥
Shwete Vrishesamarudha Shwetambaradhara Shuchih।
Mahagauri Shubham Dadyanmahadeva Pramodada॥
Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Mahagauri Rupena Samsthita।
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah॥

Now you have to perform the Panchopachara pooja by offering Gandham, Pushpam, Deepam and offer shringar items like kajal, bindi, bangles, toe ring, comb, Sindoor, necklace, red chunri, mehendi,  aalta, mirror, anklets, perfume, earrings, nose pin,  mahavar, hairpins etc. For bhog worship Maa Mahagauri and offer puri, vegetable curry, halwa. You have to conclude the puja by singing the Aarti.



Maha Gauri katha:

According to the Maha Gauri katha, goddess Mahagauri performed intense penance to please the supreme god Lord Shiva and seek his blessings and she also wanted to marry Mahadev. She finally succeeded in winning his heart and became the better half of lord Shiva. As she performed intense penance and went through harsh weather conditions, her body got covered with a pile of dirt. Lord Shiva came and then poured water to help her regain her original form. After taking a bath, she regained her glow and got  the name Mahagauri.
