Odisha government bans gatherings during Durga Puja

The government has also put a ban on the sale of firecrackers in October

The government of Odisha has taken a major decision keeping in view a rise in the Covid graph after major festivals in some parts of the country.
 
 
On Thursday, the authorities had prohibited gatherings during the Durga Puja and has  increased night curfew timings in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by an additional two hours during the festivities.
 
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena said that there will be significant rules and time table for unlocking throughout the state from 5 AM on 1 October till 5 AM on 1 November.
 
He said that congregations for the Durga Puja will not be allowed. The decisions were made after observing that unrestricted religious celebration by large gatherings had significantly led to a rise in infection rates in some parts of the country.
 
The government has also put a ban on the sale of firecrackers in October which will directly result in the cancellation of Ravan Podi celebrations in the state.
 
It is noted that all types of business establishments will remain open across Odisha according to time given by the government.
